A reader-driven 52 Places to Go list

RV red and white VW

The New York Times’ 52 Places to Go list will be reader-driven next year. The paper recently announced that its annual list will pull from the travel knowledge of its readers instead of its usual roster of editors, contributors, and travel reporters. The 2021 list will feature 52 reader submitted “love letters” to their most favorite destinations.

Great RV Destinations

In January, we reported on great RV destinations for 2020 based off of this year’s list. Highlights included Washington, D.C.; Paso Robles, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Grand Isle, Louisiana; Richmond, Virginia; Austin, Texas and Montana’s Whitefish and Glacier National Park.

With the onset of the pandemic and travel being restricted or limited to mostly domestic locations, it is no wonder that many adventure seekers took to the open road. Likewise, Americans regained interest in discovering domestic destinations like our national parks and forests. Furthermore, a report from the U.S. Travel Association shows that mountainous states offering plentiful outdoor recreational activities such as South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado saw an uptick in travel while most others experienced losses.

The Year of the RV

This may factor into the rise in popularity of RVing. Industry reports from the RV Industry Association (RVIA) indicate that August 2020 saw an increase of 17.3% in total RV shipments compared to August of the previous year. There is little doubt that the popularity of RVing is here to stay. Perhaps the silver lining to 2020 is that it may just be the Year of the RV.

Spent time on the road lately? Have a destination in mind? Throw your hat into the ring and submit your pick here. Only time will tell what’s in store for the new reader-driven 52 Places to Go list, but it is sure to be a good one.
