Despite being off to a rocky start, 2020 may just be The Year of the RV. There is little doubt that recreational vehicle travel is having a moment, with stay-at-home orders lifting, restrictions on businesses easing, and Americans more eager than ever to get outside. In addition, disruptions to the travel industry mean that more and more people are taking to the open road to keep mobile and practice social distancing. A safer form of travel, RVing allows for the ultimate control and flexibility, providing the perfect getaway in these uncertain times. During the height of the pandemic, numerous first responders temporarily moved into RV’s as the mobility allowed them to stay closer to the front line while keeping others safe in isolation.
The Year of the RV
There is clearly a spike in interest for RV travel and campers. To prove the point, the RV Industry Association (RVIA) reports the industry gains of more than 170 percent over the same time period last year in certain parts of the country. What’s more, The Boston Globe found that RV and camper rentals from bookings website RVShare skyrocketed 1,000 percent in the month of April, a sheer sign that Americans are itching to travel but in a more controlled way.
Reasons to Love RVing
What’s not to love? RV travel is perfect for keeping social distance without the fuss of traditional airline or car travel. You are in total control, from what you bring along to where you camp to where you visit. Plus, you get to experience the great outdoors in a more intimate way. Simply pack up your food and supplies, fill up on gas and essentials, have a mapped out plan, tell others you’re hitting the road and go!
