On The Road
Borrowing the name from Jack Kerouac’s classic beat generation tale of travels across the country, intermittently we’ll post accounts about our life on the road. Whether you’re traveling by motorhome, fifth wheel, trailer, camper, van, or SUV, there is so much out there to explore, and we want to bring you the very best to consider for your next adventure. Read on for our most recent excursion to Athens, Georgia, home of the Georgia Bulldogs and some incredible scenery, shopping, dining, and more! If you find yourself in the area, here is what to know when visiting.

Athens, Georgia
“The Classic City” as it is aptly named, referencing its homage to the Greek city bearing its name, is more than just a clever moniker for the City of Athens in northern Georgia. Situated about 70 miles northeast of Atlanta in Athens-Clarke County, Athens is home to the University of Georgia, a prolific institution of higher learning and their Georgia Bulldogs NCAA-winning football team. More than just a college town, the City of Athens is a cultural epicenter, home to college students, musicians, and artists alike. Newcomers will enjoy a stop at the Historic Athens Welcome Center for a walk back in time in the city’s oldest standing home. Enjoy a docent-led or self-guided tour, followed by perusing the gift shop and brochure selection.

Historic Athens Welcome Center
Located at 280 East Dougherty Street in downtown Athens, the Historic Athens Welcome Center is situated within the Church-Waddel-Brumby House Museum. Built in 1820 in a Federal Plantation Style, the Dr. Alonso Church-designed home is considered the oldest standing home built in Athens. The Welcome Center offers two daily tours of the home, as well as countless bus or walking tours throughout the city which can be booked directly through its website.
University of Georgia
Football is not the only thing that sets the University of Georgia apart. It is also considered the first state-chartered public university in the country and was founded in 1785. The sprawling main campus includes over 400 buildings, many of which are historic. A leisure walk through the main campus and a picnic under the many old oak trees is a treat any time of year. If you time your visit just right, you might be able to catch a Bulldogs football game at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium.

Where to Stay
Athens offers plenty of boutique hotels and short-term rentals like Hotel Abacus in the business district, but if you’re looking to camp, book a stay at Pine Lake RV Campground or the aptly named Bulldog Park, a luxury RV resort conveniently located three miles away from Sanford Stadium.
Before You Go
Before you go, make sure you’re prepared with all the RV care, RV maintenance, and RV restoration accessories you’ll need. RVbyLIFE’s Life-Calk® polysulfide RV sealant and Life Seal® silicone/polyurethane RV sealant are two staples to have on hand for any quick on the road repair. The Stick scrapping tool also comes in handy and works well with our Release Adhesive & Sealant Remover. Of course, no trip would be complete without a bottle of all-purpose sanitizer. Our Sanitizer for Hands and Surfaces is made with only Benzalkonium Chloride and iodized water, so it won’t leave an odor or irritate the skin on application. It also continues working on surfaces once dry unlike alcohol-based sanitizer. For all other RV repair and maintenance needs, visit our website for our full product catalog.
