Labor Day Weekend is finally here! It’s time to pack the bags, hang the bike rack, and get all the kids and four-legged friends in the RV, camper, or van! Prepare for safe travels this Labor Day Weekend with the following safety tips.
Safety Tips for Labor Day Weekend Travel
- Prepare your Vehicle – whether you’re hitting the road in an RV, camper, van, or car, make sure that your vehicle is well-equipped for the journey. Check all fluid levels and top off when needed; make sure that your tire pressure is within the suggested PSI range and do a double check on the safety gear. Road flares? Check. Jumper cables? Check. Donut or spare tire? Check. And remember, if you need any RV sealants in a pinch, check out our fine assortment at RVbyLIFE.com.
- Know the Road – no matter where you’re headed, it’s always important to check driving directions before leaving home. This way you can prepare for any road closures and see traffic in real time. If you’re headed through big cities with known traffic like Atlanta or Charlotte, consider traveling at off-peak hours to avoid the heavy congestion. Also, consider taking scenic routes as opposed to the main highways. They may be less traveled and take you a bit longer to get to your destination, but they’ll provide you with some peace and quiet and beautiful scenery.
- First Aid Supplies – before leaving home, it’s always a good idea to stock up on Band-Aids, antiseptic spray, antibacterial spray, bug spray, and sunscreen, among others. Make sure you have head-ache relievers and OTC pain medication too, just in case. You can never be too prepared when on the road!
- Provisions – this goes without saying, but you should never leave home without a substantial amount of provisions, even when traveling short distances. Take items that won’t spoil and will last a long time (think, rice, dried beans, canned fruits and vegetables, etc.). And don’t forget your pet supplies! Be sure to have plenty of dog or cat food on hand, as well as chew toys and treats to be any boredom spells while traveling. Also, remember to bring purified water with you. You can never have enough, so purify it before you go and store in large containers with pourable spouts.
