How to Clean a Fiberglass RV

Waxing RV

As manufacturers of high-quality RV care, RV repair, RV cleaning, RV maintenance, and RV restoration products, we take great pride in putting out only the finest, American made RV accessories on the market. That said, we are also RVers ourselves, so we know that keeping your RV or camper clean and grime-free is essential to maintaining the value of your investment. Here’s how to clean a fiberglass RV to prolong its life and prevent harmful damage down the road.

How to Clean a Fiberglass RV

Cleaning a fiberglass RV is similar to cleaning the exterior of a car or boat. It requires patience, practice, a water source, cleaning products, and a whole bunch of cleaning rags and shammies. Cleaning a fiberglass RV is made even simpler by choosing the right products for the job. For an RV with normal dirt and grime stains, start by spraying down the vehicle top to bottom with a garden hose to loosen the dirt. Then with a bucket of water and our Suds all-purpose RV cleaner, use a mop or sponge to apply the sudsy water all over the fiberglass exterior. Don’t worry about the gel coat finish, as long as you are using soft sponges or mops to apply. Never use anything abrasive or sharp, as that will leave lasting streaks in the gel coat finish.

Once the vehicle has been sponged down with Suds, hose off the soap with water. This will remove any of the surface level dirt and grime and leave your fiberglass RV looking new. If tough stains remain, like diesel stains and black streaks, after the initial cleaning, use our Fiberglass Powder Cleaner & Stain Remover. A heavy-duty fiberglass cleaner, it will remove pesky stains without scratching the gel coat surface. If you’re unsure of which cleaner to choose, check out our blogs on the types of RV cleaners and the best RV fiberglass cleaners.

Once your fiberglass RV’s exterior is clean, it is time to move on to the next step: waxing.

Wax your RV

After the stains have been removed from your fiberglass RV, it is highly recommended to wax the gel coat to prolong its luster and to protect it. We recommend our PolyShine® Premium Fiberglass & Composite Polish coupled with our Life Wax®, a pure Carnauba, long lasting paste that waxes on and protects fiberglass. Life Wax also naturally contains UV protection. Together, the two products will increase the brilliance of its shine up to three years. Follow our 1-2-3 guide to easily waxing your entire RV, or read this blog to learn more about RV waxes and polishes.

Protect your Graphics

Last but not least, protect any vinyl graphics with our Graphix Wax. Specifically designed for vinyl graphics, the solvent-free solution also contains a UV protectant.

Cleaning a fiberglass RV may seem daunting but once you get the hang of it, step back and be proud of your accomplishment as your RV sparkles.
