The holiday season may be here, but we’ve got our eyes set on the future! The new year is just around the corner, so the time is now to start making those travel plans. Before you do, however, we’ve rounded up our top three travel predictions for 2026.
Travel Predictions for 2026
More road trips, less air travel
There is no question that travel has increased since the Covid-19 pandemic, with domestic travel topping the list. What better time that to take to RVing, and to the open road, as domestic travel continues to rise. Given the season, AAA predicts that a staggering 122 million will travel by car between the Christmas and New Year’s break, which is the highest reported in a 15-year span. If you’re hitting the road around the holidays, check out our blogs on how to stay safe on the road and update your travel packing list before you go.
Taking the road less traveled
More road warriors are going to take the road less traveled, opting for secondary roads. Think scenic byways, stately parkways, cross country roads above the tree line, and the list goes on. Stay tuned for our annual recap of the North American destinations featured in the New York Times’ 52 Places to Go.
Live (and explore!) like a local
Last but certainly not least, we predict that more RV travelers will be staying in destinations longer in order to grasp a more “authentic” experience, opting to live (and explore!) like a local. Easy enough when you’re living and working from a house on wheels! From homestays to local cooking classes, to guided tours, and more, travelers are finding greater ROI in authentic, native, and “local” experiences when they travel, as opposed to the jam-packed itineraries of yore of where to “see and be seen.” Live like a local while traveling and explore what the surroundings and culture have to offer.
